Hi Pat,

Legend has without a doubt found his forever home! He is a gentle giant with the cats and walks like a dream beside Ruby when out walking. He has made loads of friends, dogs and people. Everyone that meets him falls in love with him and comment on how perfect he and Ruby are together. I can't believe how soon he has settled in and made himself at home. He had Weetabix for breakfast this morning and is now happily chewing on a pigs ear! (Ruby's not keen on hers so he'll probably have another one coming his way). I've covered all the mirrors that are his height up as they freaked him out, but he loves watching TV. Last night he went all night without whining or moping about-he even lets me know when he wants to go to the toilet. We all love him to bits and he's already part of the family. He's the perfect dog for us and I'm so glad we found him. Will you please pass on a massive thank you to Mark because if not for him he might not be here now. I tried to e-mail Alison but the message was sent back. Would you please thank her for me as well.

I'll keep in touch with you all and send you some photos when I can work out how to put them on my computer! Thank you all once again for 2 beautiful dogs.

Tracie xx

Hi Pat,

Just thought you would like to know how Mackeys Girl (now Muffin) is getting on. She seems to have settled in quite well, we still haven't introduced her to the cats as they seem to want to stay upstairs. The kids love her to pieces and enjoy coming out for walks with her. Here are a couple of pictures of her relaxing at home.

Thanks again for all your help

Hi Pat,

Just a quick one to let you know Indi is recovering really well after his ordeal! We was obviously very wobbly on his feet at first and we got him to his bed where he lay for the night. Mind every time we walked over his little tail would "thump thump" on the floor, bless his cottons. He hasn't been sick as yet although we did have some diahorrea this morning. I still have that pink tablet so if it persists he may have to have it! He ate some very soggy dry food this morning, not a lot but at least its something down him. He wont take his antibiotic tablets (as hard enough to get him to eat let alone eat food with tablets too!) So those unfortunately are forced down, luckily i have become a pro at that after my 4 year stint working in kennels!

His teeth look amazing now, the ones left, and I don't think they are too sore for him. Pat i have to say i think the work and the effort you and your team put in, is just fantastic. You obviously care a great deal about your Greyhounds and care so much about how they get on when homed. I cannot believe how lenient you have been over Indi's vet bill, and i cannot thank you enough for that and all your help. Indi is a fantastic dog, perfect for our family and a great joy to own. We hope to have many long years with him.

If anyone's looking to re-home a dog I will certainly be putting them in touch.

Many thanks
Harriet

Hi Pat

Just thought we'd check in to let you know how Max (Danny) is settling in!

So far, he's been a dream! He has settled in really well and knows his routine.

Our last weekend fostering him he cried a lot, however, now he is "home" and managed to work out how to open the kitchen door so he can sleep at the bottom of the stairs we've not heard a peep from him! Although he did break his muzzle achieving this the first night!! ha ha. It has now been replaced! He doesn't need it but the cat is becoming more curious of him so he has it as a precaution!

He is enjoying his walks and meeting new doggies along the way.

Ellie, (my daughter) said that she thought he was ready for his breakfast this morning as he was lying by the cupboard door where the weetabix is! She is enjoying the responsibility of giving that to him each day and is always calling him "her gorgeous boy"!

I have attached some pictures I thought you might like to see. His favourite toy is a monkey and when he plays, he always puts it away after him - something I am hoping the children can learn from!

I have found his details from his breeder on the internet and the photos of him as a puppy are lovely - If we could be sent these we would be most grateful. Also, can you let us know the name of his sister that you re-homed - Ellie is keen to see which one she is!

We will stay in touch and let you have more updates and photos as things go on.

Many thanks to you for you support and finding us a lovely pet.

Best regards

Hi Pat,

Just to let you know we all made it home! Unfortunately there was a crash right in front of us on the M25 so had to pull over and help and wait for the ambulance, poor Woody did so well didnt bat an eyelid taking a wee on the hard shoulder!

Woody, now named Indi by the kids, due to his very own Indiana Jones Bull whip (his tail! Never stops wagging!) is doing great!

He's met the neighbours cat and a tiny Yorkshire Terrier and JR and took it all in his stride no problem!

He wouldn't take any food last night but he had a Dentastix to tick him over and got him to eat all of his breakfast this morning (with a little help from cheddar cheese crumbles!)

He was no trouble during the night, had a whimper at the door and then nothing until I found him sound asleep on his bed at 7 this morning with no little present waiting for me which was nice!

He did mark the sofa around 10 mins after we got in!!! But has not shown any sign of doing such like again!

Indi's teeth are better already, gave them a brush yesterday and today, plus the Dentastix, they are coming up well. Will get vet to have a good look and clean when he's under.

He's had a bath, which he quite liked actually! Although he did decide he had had enough after a while and felt like a lie down in the tub!

He's a real character and craves a cuddle. He loves the kids and wags his whole bum when any of us approach him! What a star, a real gent and a diamond to have around. Hope it continues!

Included some piccies for you, he loves the telly and was trying to help the kids out with their computer games!

Many thanks
Harriet, Jason, Baxter and Indi!!!

Hi Pat
I just wanted to let you know how our first day and night with Alfie was!

To give a good assiciation with the car, we stopped halfway and exercised him in a sports fileld. He was fascinated by some men playing football, but was disinterested in other canines. He was quite stressed in the car during the first part of the journey but calmed down after exercise. I sat in the back seat with Lewis to reassure Alfie.

When we got home, we walked Alfie into the back garden and ensouraged him to pee before letting him in the house and walking him around on the lead. He didn't want to go upstaairs (which suits us!) We then gave him a scoop of Wafcol and allowed him to settle on his bed before we had lunch. He tried to beg when we were sitting at the dining table, but I sent him to his bed, where he stayed until we made a fuss of him after we had cleared the table.

During the course of the afternoon, Alfie made several attempts to join us on the sofas, but a few firm "nos" did the trick. I groomed him a couple of time, which he absolutely adored!

Lewis and I took him for a walk mid-afternoon (muzzle on) and he was introduced to children and a Cairn Terrier. He was not fazed by either. He was interested in children playing football and basketball. We have a friend with a Border Terrier who is happy for a meeting on neutral territory. If that meeting passes without incident, I will not muzzle him for exercise.

We gave him his dinner before ours and were amazed to find that he did not attempt to beg at the dinner table. In fact, he went to sleep and started snoring! He stayed on his bed whilst we cleared the table and loaded the dishwasher, for which he earned lots of cuddles!

He sought attention from each of us in turn before taking himself to bed about 9pm. We stayed up until 11pm and I let him out before giving him a treat and going to bed with some trepidation! We did not hear a peep out of him all night. I came downstairs about 6am to find - no problems at all! Alfie greeted me with a full body wag and presented his toy to me. I let him out for a pee while I made a coffee and took him for a walk about 6.30am.

All in all, Alfie has surpassed our expectations. We look forward to many happy years together.

Thank you and keep up the good work.

With kind regards,

Leigh, Liz and Lewis

What's in a name?'

At the beginning of October I adopted Cambridge Fizz, and she has been an absolute delight.

However, checking with Dog Search, there is no dog listed by that name. Browsing one day through adoptions I came across Cambridge Fizz (no picture) but all the details matched my Fizz.

Today I happened to look at her vaccination record which came with her - and I suspect that Vets handwriting, like doctors is indistinct and that is where the confusion has arisen.

Her pictures on the site are under Cambridge. But whether she's Cambridge aka Cambridge, she's Fizz who has given me unconditional love in the short time she has been with me.

I regularly visit the Greyhoundhomer site - what an excellent one it is. A big thank you to everyone who is involved for all their hard work in finding forever homes for these wonderful animals.

Best wishes

Hello

We always look forward to Homer coming through our door and didn't realise what was online until we just ordered some Christmas cards, so its great to see so much on the website too! Its so lovely to see all the Greyhounds pictures and seeing so many happy doggies.

We have had two Greyhounds 'Ozzy' and 'Rodney' for about five years now and they have brought endless pleasure into our lives. Then when we realised we were having a baby we were naturally worried about how the boys would be, especially Rodney as he was always nervous when children came up to him. Well we were worrying over nothing! Ozzy is so laid back and pays Ria no attention whatsoever and Rodney is like a second Dad to her and always trys to be by her side. In fact there are not many photos that we have taken of Ria where Rodney isn't in the shot too! We are sending you our latest favourite one of Ria and Rodney having a well deserved rest!

Kind Regards

Just to let you know that Boo is lovely and very cuddly, but I think I have found the only Greyhound that isn't a couch potato. She is very bouncy and can't keep still for long. Flossy is rather shell shocked by it all, as energy really isn't her thing at all, and seems a bit sulky and unwilling to interact, preferring to ignore Boo as much as possible. Is that a natural reaction when your cosy Greyhound space has been invaded?

Boo is eating everything in sight and what comes out seems three times the amount that went in !! Thankfully it has mostly been in the garden apart from a couple of accidents when the door was shut due to rain, and somebody very kindly letting off fireworks yesterday afternoon. However, she slept all the first night, apart from a small barking session at 3 a.m. when our son came home, and again last night at 2 a.m. when a cat startled her. All things that she will learn to get used to (I hope).

We have been for a few walks which she seems to enjoy very much but she does need to learn to slow down a bit and really try to walk in a straight line!

The cats are not too bothered by her at all, and she is the same with them. I find that strange as she is much more bouncy and noisy than Flossy but the cats are far more wary of Flossy. Maybe it is something to do with Flossy's stripes, whereas Boo is black? Are stripes more scary to cats?

It is all good fun and we are really enjoying her. Just hope Flossy soon feels the same.

I have attached a photo taken on day 1. If you use it on the website please edit out the fat lady holding the lead !!

Best wishes

Elizabeth

Hi Pat

Hope you're re-homing is going well. Ours is definitely picked up lately and I only have one pony left to find a home for at the moment!

Just thought I'd let you know how little sweetheart is getting on. The swelling on her shoulder has gone down and she is great on three legs at the moment! We only walk her to take her out for a wee etc. and, as I believe is true of most Greyhounds,, she is a bit of a couch potato! She has a big duvet bed in the flat where she sleeps at night with Carla, our live in groom, a bed in my head groom's office (adjacent to mine) AND big bed in my office too! Spoilt eh? She loves to doze while I work at my desk and she also has the TV on which seems to settle her if I have to pop outside for a minute or two.

Yesterday (under my supervision!) she dozed in the office with all the three cats in their respective baskets also dozing the day away. She totally ignores them and, if anything, is a little nervous of Salem, our eldest cat who takes no nonsense from canines!

She's back at the vets in a couple of weeks for check up x-rays but I'm really pleased with her progress so far. I have discovered Kiz loves having her belly ticked and rubbed, adores being cuddled and is a real little girly dog. I have two foster checks to do in Cornwall in September and usually stay there for a long weekend - guess who's coming with me this year??? She's a real "mummy's" girl, although she loves all the grooms too.

Kiz also gets on brilliantly with Darcey - who is currently having one to one dog training. Of course, at the moment, they are only allowed together for a short while on leads as he is so playful that we don't want him to hurt her shoulder by accident.

I've attached a couple of photos of Kizzy before she hurt her shoulder. The last one is of the little madam playing in a stagnant pond with Darcey (Well she's ladylike SOMETIMES!)

Thank you again for trusting me for caring for this beautiful, beautiful girl. I'm totally smitten!

Don't forget you are welcome anytime at all to come and see her.

Kind regards.

Hello Pat,

I wanted to just catch up and let you know how Sparkie is doing.

From the pic you will see that there is still a lot of life in the old dog. He will have a little sprint if he feels like it but he is slowing down a bit and likes nothing more than snoozing in the sunshine.

Nell is 3 years old now and Sparkie is her best doggy friend and very gentle and patient with her. Although it was a sad way that we came to adopt Sparkie we are all very fond of him and he has become part of our family. Blue did not get the chance to have a long rest with us but Sparkie thanks him very much for paving the way!

He is being spoilt in his old age, he is walked usually twice a day, gets a tummy rub and ear scratch most days and even puts up with having his (very few now) teeth cleaned. He is happy with his new bed and blanket as he shredded the last one in disgust as it was not comfy.

His favourite treat is ham and he has been known to steal sandwiches from carelessly unattended plates but he is a dear and we love him. He is sitting at my feet now gently farting and burping after his dinner.

Just as well that my husband has better manners!

Kind regards to all at Greyhound Homer

Paws crossed we haven’t had any more territory marking since last we spoke, despite the upheaval of decorators, new carpets etc. to confuse a dog. Has settled down to a good routine waking at 06.11 without fail every morning. I get so much more achieved at the weekends with an extra 3 hours awake! He is pretty reliable on recall so is allowed off the lead in enclosed areas, but tends to come back of his own accord any way. Has developed an ability to spot squirrels in trees, is no trouble with other dogs and people being very happy to make new friends, cats may be a problem for him though. He is learning to fetch, he is about three quarters of the way there , he chases a ball, picks it up, but only brings it halfway back before he drops it and runs back without it! The Dog show is on the calendar, but can’t guarantee we will make it as I will have to get someone to cover my teaching on Saturday morning to get there. You will notice the difference as he has gained a little weight and his coat is growing back steadily, but his tail still looks a mess. Wait till next year when he will be best in Show!

We have also discovered that Beau will leap into the car boot for a marrowbone snack, but not otherwise! His stamina is building up steadily, and this weekend he and I will be ready to start jogging now I have recovered from the Marathon, half a mile in less than his normal walk should be enough to start with for both of us.

Hi Pat,

I'm sure you'll be snowed under with pictures today (pun intended!) but here are ours. I've included 4 photos and a short video of Sweepy doing circles - he is a funny dog!

They are both doing really well and get on great with each other. Sweepy has really good recall and we have lots of space to walk them both off their leads. Sweepy is almost unrecognisable as the nervous dog he was at first. Rosy will play with other dogs a little but much prefers the company of people.

I hope you are all doing well & the dogs are happy.

Take care,

Stuart & Andrea Voaden

Hello Pat and Mary,

Sorry it has taken so long to let you know how Lady (Randal's Legacy) is getting on. The children absolutely love her especially the twins who initially were so scared of her (and vice versa). Lady generally keeps herself to herself and I cannot believe how little trouble she is. She is still very scared when we go out for walks and is yet to get used to the noise of the cars and buses but I am sure that we will get there. Lady loves going to the forest where we all have such a lovely time and you know about it when she catches the sight of a squirrel. We only hear from her when there is something in the garden or if she can sniff roast dinner and cannot wait her turn. Thank you so much for introducing her and for choosing the most perfect dog for us. I really do think that she is grateful for finding such a loving home and family and we are grateful for having her.

With much love and best wishes

Hi Pat,

Just to let you that Lottie (lakhill flame) has settled in really well & is now one of the family. She is really good with the cats & is fascinated by the hamsters. Her favourite game is emptying the logs out of the log basket and putting them in her bed. She loves playing in the garden with her new toys. We will send some photos soon.

Hi Pat,

Just a quick line to let you know that Tenna and Twink seem to be settling in really well. They have already come to terms with our birds and chinchilla (Tenna seems to have taken it upon himself to tell Twink off if she goes near the cage), and made themselves at home on the sofa’s (I can only assume that for some reason these are deemed much more comfortable than the dog beds).

They do have minor disagreements occasionally, and the Rabbit is still quite a source of excitement, but things have so far gone better than we might have hoped.

We will update you again soon with some photos (once I’ve un-earthed our PC from the pile of junk currently in front of it).

Best regards

Simon, Tracy & Nathan Abbotson
