Hi Pat

Just wanted to update you on how Harry is settling in. We are loving him.

This morning he was not disturbed until my daughter woke at 7:30. Much more reasonable hr than 5:30 the first night.

He is loving his food and long walks on the Heath. Not bothered by Horses just the small furries.

Still interested in my cat but she is getting braver so hopefully we'll get there gradually.

He has been very obedient and listening to my commands.

Kyla my daughter loves him as you will see from the pics.

He seems very laid back and is settling in nicely. Lovely boy!

Kind Regards
Emma

Pat,

Thanks for the e-mails. Just a quick note to let you know how Jonny is getting on. He seems to have settled in well although the stairs seem to be an issue, well going up is no problem but coming down is. I simply put his lead on and bring him down gradually.

He is eating fine and likes yoghurt with his cereal for breakfast.

One small issue is that he has pinched my spot on the sofa and seems to have made it his own.

He looks as if he has been here for years.

Thank you so much for him, see you at the show next week.

Hello Pat,

Thanks again for all your help yesterday, Nitro has settled in really really well. He is already a lot different to when we first took him out when he was shaking, he is now really calm and wags his tail. He already knows us and comes and sits with us on the sofa and follows us everywhere although we are trying to stop him doing this but it is so hard as he looks at you with his lovely eyes!

He loves going out for walks and walks really well on the lead, and we haven't yet had any accidents and he seems really happy and comfortable. He also managed the stairs no problem.

Where we live is quite noisy with trains and people but he wasn't bothered at all by all of this. He slept on his bed all of last night and didn't bark of get upset, and was very happy when I got up to walk him.

With regards to the vets we went back an hour later and the dog they vets had was still in surgery so they couldn't do Nitro's jabs, is there any particular vets around Southend you would like us to take him to?

Regarding breakfast, we tried Nitro at 0700 with Weetabix and warm milk, but he sniffed it and walked off. Is this the right thing to do? Other than that he has eaten really well.

Thanks again.

Dear Pat,

Just a line to say how well things are going with our greyhound (now named Missy but was Ballymac Kwiki). One or two minor spats with our terrier, but seems completely at home languishing on her duvet and enjoying her food. Thanks for your help last Thursday.

Hi Pat

Just to let you know picked Ellie up last night, She was very nervous and was sick soon after we got her home, (great fun as she had her muzzle on).

She is completely ignoring our cat which is great news, Our cat is treating her with lofty disdain, although she almost went into Ellie's cage with her in her efforts to check Ellie out.

We thought a cage might be useful for all concerned, and Ellie liked the security it gave her yesterday, she has not found the need to go in it today, as l speak she is flat out asleep on the lounge floor. She loved her fluffy Gorilla toy and slept with her head on it.

Still not eaten except the small amount of Weetabix l hand fed her this morning (she's not spoilt though). She is still nervous and trying to hide, but been much better after her walk, she has done a few wee's and a poo on her walk and then came home and finally started to drink, so things are improving slowly.

Love Sue, Bob and Mike

Hi Pat

We've just taken this picture of Eddie (Clash you may say) today to be considered for the calendar. Hope you are okay. Eddie is doing very well, he's just had his walk and is sound asleep at the moment. He's a real star and we love him very much.

Eddie is definitely one of the 'boys' now as Andrew has given him his- own middle name and the family surname. He is now officially Eddie Raymond Gadsden!

Take care.

Pat,

Just thought I would update you on Glory (now Toffee) he has settled in really well and knows his new name well. He is very good with the cat and is fine with being left in the day. You would think he had been here for months, very chilled and calm and brilliant with the children, we even let him off the lead briefly the other day and he came back with the whistle to receive his treat. Thanks again, he was just the dog we had been looking for.

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the email re the show we shall put the date in the diary, but we won’t be entering Daisy this year.

Last week she had what was possibly a small stroke, she is ‘fine’ but I think, and the vet will confirm tomorrow with her check-up, she has lost sight in one eye, she had also become extremely stressed at going out for walks prior to this – there has always been a slight problem here and have jokingly said she was agoraphobic! She is quite happy going in the car still so will try taking her over to Thorndon Country Park later and see how she is.

Alfie is fine and his usual self and says if he greases his ears and tail feathers he could sneak in as a Greyhound no-one would notice!?

Thanks for all your hard work,

Best wishes
Ruth

Thanks Pat, we'd love to be there with Lizzie & I've downloaded the form. It's my nephew's 1st birthday on 24th & expect there will be a party on the Sat but I'm hoping to manage to fit both in!

Lizzie is fine, settled well into our family & a celebrity at the school gates! We walk regularly over the Hornchurch country park with my parents & their toy poodle - I'm hoping to get a picture of Lizzie & her little mate soon to post on the forum.

Hope all is well with you,

Hi Pat,

Jack (Droopy's HotShot) is doing really well - his black coat is so silky and reflects the light just like Mary said it would (Pic attached). His leg has healed up really nicely thanks to your 'sudacream and muzzle' advice after his little trip through the bramble bush. In mine and Phils' opinion he would beat any best of show at Crufts!

Jenny

Hi Pat,

We just wanted to say how happy we are with Eddie and how well he has settled into our family. He has done so well, and he seems really contented. He doesn't like going to bed, just because he wants to stay with us, but in the morning we get a lovely reception with his tail wagging ten to the dozen! Thank you for yours and Mary's help when we came to fetch Eddie and to everyone who works in the kennels, you all do a fantastic job. We've attached some pictures of Eddie so you can see how he's getting on.

With our very best wishes,

Dear Pat and Dick

I wanted to let you know that Max (Special Power) has settled in very well here.

We named him Mac Tailer CSI (crumb scene investigator) and he has lived up to his name very well. He is a total thief, even more than Jemmy and I thought she was bad.

He's not the sharpest tool in the box but he is so lovable, enjoys cuddles and would definitely be a sofa hound given half a chance.

Jemmy ignores him most of the time and is quite dismissive of him, she even "tells" me when he has stolen something. When they are out walkies though it's a different matter. There are about another 8 greyhounds in the village so they put on quite a show when out together.

Hope you are well and not working too hard

Lots of love

Hi Pat!

Just to let you know Fallon has settled in nicely, he was so shy when we first got him and now he is such a cheeky character! I will attach some pictures, he is looking very healthy! We have recently moved next to open fields and he loves sprinting around, he has made loads of friends apart from the squirrels which he chases after, luckily he hasn't caught one yet. Although one day he came out of a bush with a fat pigeon! He carries our shoes around the house without chewing them which is sweet. Hope all is well at the kennels.

Hi Pat,

Hope you are feeling better?

I just wanted to thank you for all your help and time.

I thought you might be interested in some updates on how Maggie is doing. We have renamed her Margo, so if I refer to that name you will know that I am taking about Maggie.

She has done brilliantly, she is so smart. When I got her home yesterday she started to get used to everything, got to know her place (we have got a big comfy bed for her). She did not have any "accidents" at home, and she understands that she does all that outside. We are so surprised that she is settling so well, I could not have even dreamed that she will get comfortable so quickly. She even started to wag her tail yesterday and today she even played around with us in the house!

Margo is a perfect match for us, so you can tell her trainer that she is settling in very well.

Thanks for everything, and hopefully we will keep in touch.

Hi Pat and everyone there,

Hope you all had a great Christmas.

Just wanted you to know how much we love Bob. He had a great Christmas. Our Grandaughters came to stay and the youngest Gemma cuddles him the whole time. As you can see from the photo's he hates it! They live in the Midlands so we don't see them as often as we would like, Bob sulks when they leave!

We've taken him there for weekend, he loved it.

We can't imagine life without Bob. Even if he does like Barbie! Thank you so much.

Happy New Year to you all. Look forward to seeing you at some of the events.

Regards
Mary & Steve (& Bob of course)

P.S. He hated Christmas dinner, turkey, beef, gammon and all the trimmings!

Seasons greeting to you all at Ockendon,

I've been meaning to e-mail to keep you upto date with Gem (formerly eye on the gem). Our lovely girl has had a very packed summer, in August we packed up the cars and headed to the south west, staying for a couple of days with some old friends in North Devon at their doggy friendly B & B, gem found this all new, sheep in the fields, ponies on the moors great walks and lots of fresh air and treats. She travels really well settling in the back of the dog car, only rising when the traffic gets bad to have a good look at the other cars much to the amusement of cars and lorries and of course to stop for a cup of tea and a comfort break, along with a bacon sandwich if she's lucky.

After a couple of days in North Devon we set off again this time for Rock in North Cornwall , staying at my sisters caravan. Oh gem thought this was great squirrels a plenty to chase and a badger to snort at of a night time, she decided during this week to shed the rest of her really thick coat which had been hanging on, balls of fluff everywhere. We went down the beach everyday and hob nobbed with the sailing set, sand sent gem straight back to her racing days, we went a mile up the beach and then let her and gom off gem took one look around saw another dog half a mile further up the beach and took off with gom behind her followed not so closely by hubby and son, got to the other dog and stopped looking around as if to say well where have they got to, fortunately the other people were fine and when we explained her past completely understood.

We caught the boat across to Padstow and ate ice cream and pasties, gem and gom enjoy a good Cornish ice cream, back on the ferry in time for tea and a couple of galleries. She has been developing her diet and taste buds ever since.

She likes the snow but not the ice, and has a favourite toy which she throws with great abandon around the sitting room whilst doing her pony impersonation.

She's also taken to trying to get into the bed with gom hubby and me, which is very warm but a bit tight!

Best Wishes to all at Ockendon for 2011

Dear Pat

Happy Christmas to you and all your colleagues at Greyhound Homer.

I thought that I should drop you a line about my new brother Blue, who is settling in well. Mum and Dad decided a short and appropriate name was called for, so Blue it was, which suits him. They didn't like Droopys Paulo and he didn't answer to that anyway.

I must say that he is a big chap and quite boisterous and won't leave Mum alone, he is into everything!!! When we go for walks I am out and sniffing at everything and am very alert to what is going on but Blue just plods along and is very laid back, unlike at home. We both run around the garden at great speed but I seem to be much faster, maybe he is just being polite and letting me win but I don't think so. Blue did have trouble settling at night, so I gave up my comfortable duvet in the bedroom and now keep him company in the kitchen. Can't complain because it is lovely and warm by the Aga.

Blue is impossible at times when it comes to food. He eats what he is given and he lets me eat mine, but if it is food belonging to someone else (ie Dad or Mum) then he is there like a shot or anything left on a table etc is at risk, he is such a thief whereas I am goody two shoes!!! One day Dad caught him actually on the table eating his toast, can you believe that?

Anyway I wouldn't trade him for any other dog and we are very good pals and thank you for finding him for us.

I have enclosed a couple of pictures, hope that they turn out all right.

A Happy New Year and I shall be in touch soon.

Best wishes and Love
Spooky

Pat,

I must apologise for not being in touch to let you know how Honey was getting along. When we got her home in May she went to the top of the garden and hid behind a water butt. Since then she has developed into a super dog. On her regular walks she socialises with all types of dogs and walks well on and off the lead and she is on about 90% recall. The only problems we have at the moment is squirrels and cats - the cat problem I am trying to deal with and I think I am getting there. Regular walkers have remarked how more outgoing she is. Honey has found two friends in "BJ" and "Lucky" - two greyhounds and it is a joy to watch them together. The owner of these dogs who is greyhound man through and through has said she is a happy dog. She is so affectionate I would not be without her now.

I must thank you for allowing us to re-home Honey.

Wishing you a very happy New Year

Dear Pat,

Apologies for the lack of communication. I’ve been willing to write you a few lines about how Zero (Ciryl’s wish) is doing in his new house. I have moved recently into a ground floor flat with a huge garden and Zero’s enjoying it a lot. He comes with me to the office everyday and sleeps while I’m working. He also enjoys a daily walking out in the fields and has some fun chasing rabbits. Zero is so fast!

He is a lovely dog who never barks or growls, although he is still a bit of a “gassy” fellow and my office colleagues have to cope with it! J

He is still very anxious with food and more than eating “vacuums” his feed. However he is getting more relaxed and now he comes back when I called him when he is off the lead.

Well, that is the quick updated of Zero’s status. Hope you are well and have a lovely Christmas time with your loved ones.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Belen Otero

Hi Pat

Hope you are well!

Brian is fine, he is walking well and not spooked anymore, his retrieving / recall training in the Tennis court is going well and I may soon let him off the lead - but still a bit cautious as he does seem to want to chase and join in other dogs games - doesn't worry me but some other dog owners may take umbrage (also he appears to like squirrels).

He is a lovely dog and is getting my wife out of the house on a daily basis - she loves him to bits - but he is a bit ill mannered - he's a bit of a gannet and hovers around at our mealtimes.

Cheers
Tim

Hi Pat,

I would just like to thank you for letting me adopt Selsy Boop now Sophie. She really is a beautiful, loving dog. She is also house trained which is a massive bonus as she is now teaching Gucci how it should be done LOL. Gucci and her are getting on fantastically well he now even lets her sleep on her bed. I feel very lucky indeed to have had the opportunity to adopt the two dogs. They truly are a fantastic breed and have brought joy to our lives. In my opinion everyone should own a Greyhound or two.

You do such a fantastic job and work extremely hard.

Thanks again

Hi Pat

It’s Sarah, Roz’s new mummy (I’m using my work email). Just a quick update on Roz. She seems to settling really well and we had no tears last night. We put a bed down in the living room and our bedroom so she could sleep where she wanted but she chose to sleep next to our bed.

She’s had a little bit of weetabix this morning which she seemed to like and has been out for a nice walk. She and Dave were both fast asleep when I left for work (it’s alright for some!) She feels like part of the family already and I’m so glad we brought her home!

Will keep you updated on her progress.

Hi Pat and Mark............

What a superstar Tyson is!

We can't tell you how good he's been...not one accident as yet.

Jacob, our 14 month son, is in love and Tyson seems just as happy with his new pal.

Milly (our 12 year old collie) is enjoying having another pack member to show round the woods.....he has shown no interest in smaller dogs...not even too fussed with squirrels...and walking along with the buggy a dream...can't believe this is all new to him.

His table manners are another matter!!

Just had a couple of questions, you mentioned a lotion to help his fur grow back......I've forgotten what you recommended?

Also what food was he on at the kennels, and how much would you suggest he has........left up to him the contents of the fridge and freezer would have done for the first ten minutes!

Also would it be better for the charity if we brought him to you for his jabs to save on vets fees????

Thanks once again for all your help!
