The Havering Show

Posted by: Mark Wilson

This years Havering Show (at the end of August) raised £604.93, and there were plenty of enquiries. A big thank you to all those who brought their dogs along to the show, they're a big draw to our stall for people visiting the event, and without them we'd not get the same level of enquiries or raise as much money.

The coming of September sees 156 dogs homed

Posted by: Mark Wilson

As we head towards autumn we've now homed 156 dogs, A big thank you to everyone who's taken on one of our hounds and to all those who've helped at shows and with the homings.

September see the departure of myself and our family to Bideford, North Devon. I'll still be running the website though and looking after matters technical for Greyhoundhomer, I'm also hoping we'll be able to get back for next years Stifford Show. We're happy to visitors, we have plenty of space, and if you're travelling to Cornwall, Bideford is a pretty good stop over location, since you can continue your journey along the A39 to Newquay where you can pickup the A30 again.

We launched our Summer \ Autumn Newsletter 2010 at the end of August, and launched our first online raffle, so August was pretty busy.

Do you have a mobile phone you no longer use? If so why not donate it to us? Used mobile phones have proved to be a great source of funding for us. Running our Kennels and caring for our Greyhounds before they get their forever home comes with some significant costs, including Vet and feeds bills. So if you've got an old mobile please consider passing it to us. You can pass phones on to any member of staff, or send them directly to Pat at:

Greyhoundhomer RGT 2011 Calendar

Posted by: Mark Wilson

It's that time of year again when we're asking people to submit picture(s) of their Greyhounds for possible inclusion in the Greyhoundhomer RGT 2011 Calendar. We had many excellent submissions last year which were judged by RGT Head Office and from those twelve were chosen for the 2010 Calendar. Like last year all entries will be chosen by head office and all those who have a picture included will receive and free copy of the Calendar. The closing date for submissions is Friday the 30th of April 2010. All entries should be sent by email to bob@greyhoundhomer.co.uk.

NOTES ABOUT YOUR SUBMISSION

Printers need the best possible image quality that they can get to create the best results for us so below are a few brief notes on how you can achieve that:

  • Pictures should be taken on cameras not mobile phone cameras

  • Set your digital camera to take the highest resolution image possible, see the manual it was supplied with on how to do this

  • Pictures should be of the best quality you can take with your camera, the higher the resolution (or the mega pixel rating the better)

Charity Canal Cruises on Indigo Dream

Posted by: Mark Wilson

Some of you may remember that last year Richard and Sue hosted a London Canal cruise on their narrow boat Indigo Dream. Well, with summer fast approaching they have said that they are happy to host more charity cruises for anyone who wishes to join them for a day trip or two.

In April, May and June, Richard and Sue anticipate moving their boat a weekend at a time up the Grand Union Canal to Northampton and then through the fens towards Cambridge. Groups of 5 up to a maximum of 8 people, and up to 5 greyhounds, are welcome to join them, though sadly they can't offer overnight accommodation on the boat. Dates are flexible, get your party together and suggest a weekend! It should be possible to meet the boat at a number of different locations during this time. The price per person for each day trip will be £20.00, and those attending will need to make their own way to the agreed meeting point, and there may or may not be a charge for parking your car.

They estimate that Indigo Dream will be back in London around mid-July; they will set some dates in July and August for which individuals can apply for trips round various parts of the London Ring including Little Venice to Camden, various trips out from Limehouse and probably a trip from Teddington west up the Thames. Then they'll be heading towards Bishops Stortford for early autumn.

If you're interested in taking a trip on Indigo Dream, please email Richard on richard@nosek.co.uk with your preferred date for taking your trip and, based on the above information about the boat's location, where you'd like to pick it up. Richard will then sort out precise times and pickup points with you. Once you have confirmed dates, timings and a collection point with Richard, you can make your payment directly to Pat, cheques made payable to 'Greyhoundhomer RGT' and they should be sent to:

Pat Philpot
Greyhoundhomer - Indigo Dream Cruise
106 Parsonage Road
Rainham

RM13 9LF

I'm sure those who went on the London voyage will tell you how much they enjoyed themselves. So why not give it a go! All money raised goes to Greyhoundhomer RGT.

43 dogs homed and counting!

Posted by: Mark Wilson

Well we've made it to the beginning of March, time seems to be flying by, and we've already homed 43 dogs (at time of writing)! This at least matches last year when we were three branches. We've seen a number of our older dogs go home which is really nice for them because it's been a cold, snowy and wet start to the year and I'm sure everyone's looking forward to the warmer weather. March is due to be a busy month, we've got trips to numerous 'Tesco' and 'Pets at Home' stores and Andy & Charmains Greyhound Walk from the Greyhound Pub in Harlow is on Sunday the 28th of March. Lets hope the homing success stories keep rolling in during this month, and we look forward to perhaps seeing some of you and your dogs at the upcoming events.

Cheers to Our Volunteers

Posted by: Mark Wilson

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Retired Greyhound Trust and this year the charity is celebrating the work of its volunteers who help to find loving families and owners for homeless greyhounds.

Whether they have raised much-needed funds, sold merchandise, represented the charity at one of the many shows across the region, walked a greyhound or actually helped to find a home for one of the dogs, the Retired Greyhound Trust is saying Cheers to Our Volunteers as part of a three month campaign to raise awareness of volunteering.

The culmination of the celebrations will take place from June 1 to 7 when the Trust is an official partner of this year’s national Volunteers’ Week. Between now and then, our volunteers across the country will be profiled on www.retiredgreyhounds.co.uk and www.volunteersweek.org.uk. You can also follow volunteering news on twitter @volunteersweek.

The Trust will sit alongside other major organisations that are recognising their volunteers, including: the British Heart Foundation, Sustrans, The Blue Cross, TimeBank, Rugby Football Development Limited, England & Wales Cricket Board, Victim Support, Citizens Advice Bureau, RSPB and the British Red Cross.

Volunteers have played a key part in helping the Retired Greyhound Trust to home nearly 5,000 retired greyhounds last year and a whopping 50,000 since the charity was founded in 1975.

For further information on volunteering at your local branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust telephone Pat on 01708 551 689.

Greyhoundhomer RGT opens a Zazzle Store

We've created a new way to buy Greyhoundhomer RGT merchandise, including t-shirts, mugs, polo shirts, cooking aprons etc. we've opened a Zazzle Store! All products available in our Zazzle store are made by Zazzle to order and so cost a little more, however that perhaps makes them all the more special since it makes the designs very individual. In addition to Greyhoundhomer branded items there are other designs available and more will be added whenever a member of the Greyhoundhomer team gets an idea for a design.

We also have the capacity to integrate your own Greyhound(s) into our designs, and place them in the store for you to purchase. To do this you will need to email a high quality picture to Mark, with a web link to the Zazzle product you would like your Greyhounds image integrated into. You will be able to view the design and image Mark creates before committing to purchase.

For every product sold via the Greyhoundhomer Zazzle store we receive a percentage of the total sale price which goes towards the care of our dogs and rehoming activities. Please note should you purchase an item from our Zazzle store that it will be supplied to you by Zazzle, not Greyhoundhomer, therefore any delivery queries or faulty item claims must be addressed through Zazzles customer services department.

To visit our Zazzle store please click here. Some of the products can be viewed and accessed from the flash scroller below.
