| SPECIAL DOGS
These
Greyhounds are
here either because they are older and so can be overlooked or have
already been in a home and we therefore want to get them back into a home
environment asap. They may also be here because they've
perhaps had an injury during their career that means
people just pass them by, or they might have a medical
condition which needs on going care or medication for
the rest of their lives - in these rare cases the
Retired Greyhound Trust will often pay for this
medication (this will be confirmed on a case by case
basis by the homing co-ordinator).
The 'special dogs' you see below are for the most part simply
special because they already been through one or more homes and
due to changes in the circumstances of the owners they have had
to return them.

Danny
Danny is an October 2005
dog, he's a big lad, but walks well on the lead and is
very friendly. He's been homed a few times, and is
therefore house trained. He enjoys his walks like most
dogs and is excitable when it's time to go out, but soon
settles down once he gets going. He will fit in with
most family circumstances, but will be at his very best
as an only dog soaking up all the attention you can give
him. Danny would be difficult to home with small furries
such as cats and therefore a home without these
distractions would be better for him. A stunning lad.
Chris is a July 2005
dog, he's not a big lad but is quite strong on the lead,
he's quite lively and would suit an active family where
if there are children they should perhaps be 10-12 years
or older. Chris has been homed a couple of times and is
house trained, he has been returned because he can be a
bit strong on the lead. He may benefit from
some training to curb this over excitement when on the
lead, something that maybe the
Billericay Dog Training School
could help with, they run Greyhound specific
classes. Chris is a cracking lad who just needs the
right home to turn him into a stunning pet!
Sue is a September 2005
girl, she's a very regal black lady. She is a small
dog who is very friendly and enjoys following you
around. Sue has been returned to us due to his previous
owners ill health, so she is house trained, but we don't
think she'd be suitable for homing with small
furries. Sue has lived in a home with another Greyhound
called Buster who's recently gone home, we'd love to see
Sue go home as well. If you think Sue might be the girl
for you, as a partner for your existing dog or on her
own, please get in touch.
A February 2005 boy, Tommy
is a very friendly lad who walks well on the lead. He
should fit in well in most family circumstances. He's
also our odd one out here. Tommy has never been in a
home unlike the other dogs listed above, Tommy is on
here because he will need medication for the rest of his
life due to an overactive immune system which causes him
to suffer from Gingivitis. This means he is on Steroids
to control the condition, the cost of which will be met
by the Retired Greyhound Trust, leaving you just
responsible for other care \ vet bills. We would really
like to see Tommy go to a good home and don't want to
see him become a long termer in the Kennels, he really
is a nice lad so why not give him a try out?
