That really does mean I haven’t got a bad word to say about the EPOS H6PRO headset. If you’re in the market for a wired option, have the cash to splash and want some of the best comfort, stylings and audio you can get, you should be going out and buying the H6PRO immediately. It’s that good.

The GSP 300 headset is a great starting point for those looking to get into Sennheiser gaming headsets - but one that can also stand in its own right given the quality, and value in particular, that it offers. As I said in my review, "getting a Sennheiser-quality headset like this, at this price point, and with this device-versatility, is an excellent proposition and one that is easy to recommend". Convenient and intuitive volume control via a large "finger-friendly" volume wheel on the right ear cup Long, drawn-out gaming sessions aren’t a hassle at all with these thanks to their generously padded, well-spaced ear cups and they present an overall build that’s solid and definitely built to last.

Open and shut

The entire H6PRO is very neat and tidy, in fact. It feels extremely well-made in hand, and while primarily plastic, there's a metal headband running through the top of the leatherette-clad band that offers plenty of flex should you be a bit rough with it. When it comes to hearing and being heard, the H6Pro shines. I especially liked the open acoustic design as it kept me engaged with my surroundings without taking me out of the action. Unfortunately, my gaming sessions with this headset were always short lived due to its tight fit. The 2-axis hinge is supposed to help the H6Pro conform to your head. The mechanism doesn’t seem to actually give very much though, resulting in a ton of pressure; I had to remove my glasses at one point because of the pain from the cups being pressed against my skull. This might not be an issue for everyone, but for me at least, despite having memory foam covered cups and a somewhat flexible frame, the H6Pro was very uncomfortable to wear. The Audio Once upon a time, Sennheiser made excellent headsets for gaming that looked more sophisticated than their RGB-daubed cousins and sounded like they’d been made by a long-established pro audio company - funny, that. Then EPOS took over those lines and refreshed them with an eye on repositioning them juuust slightly more towards the lifestyle market. They come with a USB-C dongle, allowing you to plug them into your Nintendo Switch and PS5, as well as a cable that will allow you to plug the dongle into a PS4, for example. On top of that, they also support Bluetooth, so you can sync them with any device that supports it.

The earcups are nearly bare; besides the boom mic and a large circular volume dial, there aren’t any external buttons or switches. This helps in providing seamless lines, where the aesthetics bleed into one another for an overall uniformed appearance. There are some bits that stand out though. For instance, the left cup features a magnetized surface that secures either the detachable mic or a metal plated cover. Below that is where the headset’s cables connect – either a PC cable (that splits into the green/pink headset/mic plugs) or a 3.5mm cable for console and mobile device use. The right cup sports the volume dial that, without its slightly raised notches, would otherwise go unnoticed. Overall, besides the differences with each variant that’ll come down to personal preference, there’s very little to complain about when it comes to the H6Pro’s sound design. It’s simply one of the best in this department at its mid-range price point. Take a glance at the specs list for the EPOS H6Pro Open, and you'll see mentions of 42mm drivers, and a frequency response of 20Hz to 20kHz. You don't have to spend long looking to find headphones with larger drivers inside them, but the EPOS H6Pro Open does a more than respectable job at producing an immersive soundscape, one where small details are well rendered and louder noises retain their detail and sharpness. To be fair, this isn’t a huge problem as most wired mics don’t have these chat mixer features. And considering that most people tend to hang out in party chat, regardless of their preferred console, I doubt anyone will really notice. That said, Microsoft gets the edge when it comes to fine tuning chat when playing with random gamers online. First off there is a key bit of housekeeping to make you aware of: Sennheiser headsets will now be sold under the EPOS brand name. After a de-merger in 2020, the products were sold under the 'EPOS | Sennheiser' mantle, but now, if you're looking for a Sennheiser gaming headset, you'll actually be purchasing an EPOS gaming headset in the end. Do not let this put you off in any way, however: the Sennheiser quality and reputation remain, and is enhanced through EPOS's input. As a result, some of these models are still - and will become - some of the best gaming headsets.Our in-house gamers put the H6PRO to the test and came out with a few helpful notes and tips that will ensure your set up is a breeze and you're getting the best experience possible out of your new H6PRO. For testing purposes, we used a PC. Setup: From there, utter simplicity takes hold. There are exactly zero buttons on the H6PRO and instead any connection with the online world is delivered from an elongated boom mic that swings up and down whenever it is required, muting and placed neatly out of the way over the left cup. One thing about this magnetically-attached mic design though: If you aren't careful while lifting the mic up to mute, you can pretty easily pull it off, which could be bad news in a heated battle with friends. It took me a few days of regular use to get used to this, but eventually it wasn't a major issue. EPOS the word essentially means epic; a tale of extraordinary doings of extraordinary people who, in dealing with gods or superhuman forces, gave shape to the universe (according to Wikipedia). No offense to the Turtle Beaches of the industry, but EPOS wins the branding game.The price versus audio quality trade-off is just about right, and we think that when you clamp the headphones over your ears and start listening to something, you'll consider your money well spent. Bass response is particularly good, and actually might be a bit much for some people – if you want to tweak it, you'll need to use a third-party app, because the EPOS H6Pro Open doesn't come with customisation options of its own. The design is similar to the 300s, sure, but the build quality is also great and worthy of the price tag; it's excellently solid, robust, and clamps to your head and ears incredibly comfortably. Even the suede-y ear cups are lovely. And on top of that, you of course get premium Sennheiser audio quality to go with it. It's worth noting that while they do come with an in-built microphone, this only works when you’re connected through Bluetooth - not the USB-C dongle. That’s because the dongle is focused on providing low-latency audio, so there is minimal disruption between what’s happening in your game and what you’re hearing. However, it does mean that you won’t be able to communicate with team-mates online.
