If you’re considering getting a Hario or Porlex grinder, you seriously need to upgrade your budget a tiny bit and get this one instead. Compared to blade grinders, burr grinders are quite simple to adjust to modify the grind size to be compatible with more brewing methods.

If you want something more premium feeling and/or espresso capable, I think the Jx and Jx Pro is where it’s at. Both those models should be able to last a decade at least, while I’m not sure that goes for the C2.

Here's what our customers have been saying about us...

Timemore thought of that. The C2 has dual bearings to help the burrs stay stable. This dual-bearing stability may be contributing to how easy it is to use, too.

I think the thing that impresses me most with the early use of this product is the “action” of the crank arm. Without coffee inside, it is glass-smooth with almost no friction at all. I hold the body of the grinder in one hand, give it a slight wiggle, and the crank arm can spin around at 150+ RPM if I wanted to. Along with that, the dual bearing axle system keeps the burrs very steady in their housing with very little wobble, if any. The Timemore Chestnut C2 comes in at a pretty standard size, measuring 160mm by 60mm. The hopper can hold 25 grams of coffee which is more than enough for a single serve with most brewing methods. If you are after a hand grinder with a larger capacity, you could consider the Timemore C2 Max, which is an identical grinder but with a slightly larger capacity, it can accommodate up to 30 grams of coffee. For the price point, the performance of the C2 is exceptional. The precision of the burrs and the consistency of the grind contribute to a complex and clear cup that rivals some of the best hand grinders at much higher price points. Whether you’re into pour-overs, Aeropress, or French press, this grinder delivers in terms of body, clarity, and complexity. Manual grinders are usually made of steel, ceramic, or plastic, and the material matters as this affects the coffee grinder’s durability. Because the Timemore C2 is mostly made of aluminium and plastic, it is not the most durable option compared to stainless steel. For this, we took off half of a point. Burr Quality – 5/5One of the great joys of my job here at CoffeeGeek is that I get to discover and use exceptional products. For years and years, I was used to the idea that, if I wanted a quality hand grinder, I had to go with something from Orphan Espresso and their huge and heavy Lido models. The OE Lido does set a high bar on quality output, but it’s not exactly a good travel solution. But if you’re new to hand grinding and just want something to make your morning pour over extra special, the Timemore Chestnut C2 is a great choice. Timemore C2 Burrs

Overall, I think C2 places itself in a comfortable position. It’s the cheapest, serious grinder available, and the size is just about right for something you can use every day while still bringing with you on holiday. Conclusion: Timemore C2 review Really, the C2 is a no-fuss piece, which is why it’s an excellent choice for a first coffee mill. Disadvantages The portability is greatly increased due to the amount of plastic used to cut down on this coffee grinder’s weight, making it the perfect lightweight hand grinder for travel. Not only is there plastic inside, but it also has a plastic lid cover and a plastic grind adjustment knob. This lightweight coffee grinder measures 14.7 cm high, 5.2 cm in diameter, with a 15.9 cm handle, and weighs 430 g. It can hold 30 g of coffee beans, suitable for 3 cups, but it is recommended only to put in up to 25 g. There are also no wires, cords, or batteries to worry about here. Price – 4.5/5 EASY TO GRIP & GRIND - The unique anti-slip textured makes this manual burr coffee grinder easier to hold; it is also smooth to handle and grind thanks to the smooth bearings and slim-52mm-diameter body. However, these burrs falter when it comes to speed. Grinder with the C3 is slower than with the C2, and the flavour and clarity aren’t noticeably improved. Given that the S2C burrs are the major change from the C2 – and thus the main reason for the cost increase – it is disappointing that they don’t live up to the hype. Portability 4/5grind adjustment settings may sound like a lot, but with models like the 1Zpresso K Plus featuring nearly 100, the C2 clearly does not allow for a ton of precision when you grind coffee.

It has an anatomically shaped handle that spins smoothly due to being mounted on ball bearings, and on the inside, there’s a set of 38 mm steel burrs. By now, we have seen this design often, and it works perfectly fine for these pour over-centric home grinders. Absolutely, the Timemore Chestnut C2 is worth it, especially if your focus is on filter coffee. If you want a hand grinder primarily for espresso, you should not buy the C2. I much prefer the upgraded dial in the newer C2 models. However, in my opinion, the workflow with external grind adjustment systems is a lot better. Timemore C2 Grind Settings Previously we have seen grinders that were either very cheap and relatively useless, or more expensive and capable. Both the C2 and C3 use stainless steel conical burrs. The kind of burrs in each grinder is the biggest difference between the two.In saying this, the crucial components, like the burrs and hand crank, are made of stainless steel. The hand grinder has been carefully designed to ensure the burrs are stable and produce a consistent grind size. The handle spins smoothly, being mounted on dual bearings. Additionally, the inner burr is spring-loaded to ensure repeatability of grind sizes. The C2 is often hailed as THE cost-effective hand grinder, but when it comes to the burr quality, Timemore didn’t skimp. In the manual, Timemore claims that it also has espresso settings, and while it technically can work, I wouldn’t use it for that. The range is quite narrow, so you’ll encounter problems when trying to dial in shots. Also, the burr’s geometry means that it doesn’t have much traction in the particular range, so it takes forever to grind a typical espresso dose. For an occasional shot, the C3 is a great budget option, but if espresso is your main focus, consider one of the espresso-specific grinders we’ve recommended below. Build quality 4.5/5 Even though this hand grinder is great for manual brewing, you may not appreciate the grind quality when you’re cranking out enough for a large Chemex (which tends to take around 50 grams of coffee).
