Guitarists will be pleased to know that ZEDi-10FX comes with a pair of Guitar DI high impedance inputs, allowing guitars to be plugged straight into the mixer without the hassle and expense of carrying separate DI boxes. The first two channels also offer a “ guitar mode,” which basically engages high impedance inputs, which cuts out the need to bring your own DIs on the road. The other two channels replace the guitar mode button with a Line/Pad button — one that cuts the input level by a handy 20dB. Directly under those buttons, on all four channels, you’ll get a low cut filter, which sits at around 100Hz. ST3 takes its input from USB and can be blended into either the Aux or Mix buses, with PFL. It also has controls for routing analog signals to the USB interface (see below). As with any mixers, the quality and functionality varies from one manufacturer to another and from model to model. The quality and quantity of the audio conversion has varied too, with some designs offering up to 16 channels of I/O, and others only offering stereo; and some offering 24‑bit conversion and up to 96kHz sample rate, but more budget models only up to 16‑bit, 48kHz. In the middle of the console are the FX controls. On the right side of the consoleyou’ll find the master section, which has a long-throw fader, headphone controls, aux and monitor controls, and a phantom power switch — which is global. The EQ certainly don’t give you as much control as you might want, but they sound pretty good nonetheless. There’s no denying that in studio situations you may want to rely more on plugins for your EQ needs, as you’ll be able to get much more surgical. In live situations, however, the ZEDi-10FX is more than capable — sure, you don’t get to set the Q, but the Q the console sets for itself is very musical.
