Me ha encantado la historia. Debo reconocer que al principio me preocupaba lo que pudiese salir de la historia porque he leído el de Frozen, que esta misma autora escribió para esta saga de libros, y no me gustó nada. Así que no quería ni pensar que se volviese a repetir, pero ha sido toda una sorpresa.

I'm so in love with the way the author wrote this story, especially the descriptions of the cooking and magic. It's a fast, easy read, and it's perfect for younger audiences, and for those who enjoyed The Princess & The Frog and wants a little bit more of Tiana, her passion for cooking and the relationships with her friends and family. All of the scenes with her Mom and Dad seriously tugged on my heartstrings, and a few of them left me in tears. Another thing that I loved was that this is written in third person, and there's more than Tiana's point of view. If there’s one thing Disney movies are known for, it’s their fairy-tale endings where the protagonists live “happily ever after,” and “The Princess and the Frog” is no different. However, “Almost There” starts at a point where Tiana and Naveen haven’t gotten their happily ever after yet, and it’s a mystery whether or not they will even get one due to the terms of Tiana’s deal. Since the deal allowed Naveen to turn human again, he consequently forgot the adventure he and Tiana had as frogs. I worried that Naveen’s character growth ( rare for a Disney prince) would vanish in this new storyline, but Rochon proved me wrong. Naveen works at Charlotte’s father’s sugar factory and expresses his desire to make a name for himself in New Orleans, inspired by Tiana’s hard work and determination. May I first say, I am unfamiliar with The Princess and the Frog fairy tale and equally unaware of the Disney re-make of the tale so I have no idea what actually happened and how the author 'twisted' it to get this tale.One of the highlights of Go the Distance is that so much of the book is centered around female friendships. Megara is assisted by Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite; Megara is sent on a quest to rescue Katerina from the Underworld; the Underworld has a new (and exciting!) goddess on the scene; Megara faces the grief of losing her mother as a child. Female characters are the central force that propels the story forward. I loved that Calonita ensured that Megara’s decision to pursue becoming a goddess wasn’t solely bound to her desire to be with Hercules, but because she was worthy of becoming a goddess by her own merits. But on the other hand, her feelings for Naveen are as strong as ever. Making it worse, he and Charlotte, Tiana’s best friend, have become good friends so he is constantly around. Tiana wishes things could be different but she doesn’t see a way out so she keeps holding up her end of the deal. The good thing here is that I read an arc rather than spending money on it. Because if I had I would be pretty annoyed right now. More annoyed than I am at wasting my time trying to give this one a chance. That out of the way - We have a delightful young woman, Tiana, who loves to cook and wants to open her own restaurant in New Orleans. It is due to her agreement with the villainous Dr. Facilier that she not only gets her father helping her dream (he died in World War I) as well as an eatery popular among many locals and more. Disney-Hyperion. ISBN 978-1368064095. It's Tiana's turn to take center stage in this magical volume set in 1920's New Orleans. I'm sure many of you love The Princess and the Frog as much as I do and it was so nice to return to that setting and characters through this story. I loved the twist, the reasons that led Tiana to strike a deal with Facilier, and how Facilier managed to screw up the terms of the contract. e) Hades is not the villain, he just got screwed over by his brothers Poseidon and Zeus- holding a grudge is completely logical but no one ever gives him that.

My favorite aspect was seeing Meg be forced a bit out of her stubborn independence. I know other reviewers have said that she was far too hot-headed in this book, and I agree, but I don't necessarily feel like it was out of character. At the beginning of the book, we see her far less... rash than at the end of the book. As she feels like she's failing, she becomes more and more desperate to prove just how much of a failure she isn't, thus creating many of the scenarios that got on other reviewers' nerves. Which, again, is valid, but it's also - from my experience, at least - realistic? People tend to do stupid things when they're desperate, especially when said person feels that being vulnerable is a weakness.
