Karen Kondazian’s new novel THE WHIP is a fantastic discovery and an important addition to great, historical reads. For a long time there has been a view that this is how things work at Westminster, so this is how things will continue to be.It is a dramatic novel, filled with action, extraordinary description about Charley’s life as a man. As a result, sometimes the subject matter got a little heavy and can definitely weigh the reader down.

Karen Kondazian has allowed her imagination to weave Charley’s life into an intriguing pattern and done so in a fast-moving tale that quite possibly could be true. The Cut of the Whip involves a kidnapping that is not a kidnapping because the victim is helping his abductors.Kondazian presents Parkhurst as a cis woman who decides to live as a man mainly to take revenge on someone; she needs a job that would not have been given to a woman, so she disguises herself as a man and lives as a man, but the author refers to Charley with female pronouns (when the story is on Charley's POV; when it's in someone else's POV, Charley is referred to with male pronouns because the character thinks Charley is a man).
